Two appointments were made to the Nevada Ethics Commission Tuesday.

Gov. Kenny Guinn named Reno lawyer Rick Hsu to the panel replacing retiring Judge Mario Recanzone.

And the Legislative Commission named former State Senator Jim Kozinski of Sparks to the panel which investigates and reviews reported ethics violations by state and local officials.

Kozinski served one term in the Nevada Assembly and one in the Nevada Senate from 1977 to 1982. He is a lawyer who has served on other appointed commissions since leaving the Legislature including a study of alternatives to sentencing offenders to prison.

Legislative Commission member Assemblyman Bernie Anderson, D-Sparks, said Kozinski has an excellent reputation both while in the Legislature and in his professional life and would provide a balanced viewpoint in dealing with ethical issues.

Hsu was described by Guinn as a man of "skill and integrity." He has researched issues involving the ethics of school board members and worked on an ethics seminar sponsored by the American Inns of Court.

Both men will officially join the commission July 1.
