Richard Davies, professor of history at the University of Nevada, Reno, was recognized in the January issue of Choice magazine for his latest book, "Main Street Blues: The Decline of Small-Town America."

The magazine's editorial staff listed Davies' book and 600-plus other titles from a field of more than 6,500 scholarly and research-related works reviewed in 1999. The "Outstanding Academic Titles" list is used by academic librarians throughout the United States and Canada.

In the book Davies explores how modern America's dominant urban culture has relegated towns such as his native Camden, Ohio, to obscurity.

Davies, the university's vice president for academic affairs from 1980 to 1986, has taught history at Nevada for the past 20 years.
