A 24-year-old woman has been found guilty of filing a false police report accusing a former boyfriend of sexually assaulting her.

Carson City Justice of the Peace John Tatro sentenced Kathleen Ann Allen to the maximum six months in jail after finding her guilty of the misdemeanor count Friday.

''I can't imagine being in a position where I'm accused of something I didn't do,'' Tatro said. ''The saddest thing of all is what you've done to true rape victims.''

In October 1998, Allen accused ex-boyfriend Michael Wright of sexually assaulting her at knifepoint. Wright was arrested, but the charges against him were dropped after an investigation turned up no evidence linking him to the case.

Investigators then learned that Allen filed at least three other similar police reports in Carson City and Martinez, Calif. Each case was dropped because of a lack of corroborating evidence and witnesses.

Allen on Friday insisted that all of the attacks really happened, but she was placed on suicide watch at the Carson City Jail pending a further evaluation of her mental health.

Wright said he felt sorry for Allen, but he also thinks she deserves jail time for what she put him through.

''I want her to have a record,'' he said. ''I want her to be stopped so this doesn't happen to someone else.''
