The Carson High junior varsity football team took advantage of two botched punts for a come-from-behind 18-16 win over Elko in its season opener on Friday.

Carson trailed 16-6 when Michael Dittenber ran for 51 yards to set up a scoring chance. The drive stalled, but Elko fumbled the ensuing punt attempt and the Senators took advantage when Robert Schneider scored on a 29-yard run.

Anthony Bass then recovered a bad snap on a punt attempt deep in Elko territory to set up Ryan Sarkissian's 11-yard scoring run. Robert Ghiglieri and Bass combined for a quarterback sack to end Elko's final possession and seal the win.

Other leaders for Carson's defense included John Stewart and Mike DeWitt. Schneider scored on a 42-yard run to give Carson a 6-0 lead and Sarkissian ran for 108 yards.
