DOUGLAS 3, GALENA 0

Kali Schmidt contributed to all three goals as the Douglas girls soccer team (4-0, 2-0) set up its showdown at home against Carson on Tuesday.

Douglas scored twice in the first 11 minutes of the game as Andrea Chaney and Britney Christen scored on assists from Schmidt. Schmidt scored on an assist from Lindsee Porter in the second half.

"It was a much more challenging game for us, which was good for us," Douglas coach Fred Schmidt said.

For the most part, Douglas was without two of its top players against Galena. Amber Gwinn missed the whole game with an ankle injury and Kristie Gearty missed most of the game.

But Douglas received excellent play from defenders Dara Harris, Rebecca Wallstrum and Jessica Brady. Goalie Mallory Moore had six saves in posting the shutout. Schmidt also said Porter had an outstanding game at midfield.

"I don't know if we're at the caliber of Carson, yet," Schmidt said. "Hopefully we'll be able to stay with them."
