Cannons baseball to host tournament

The Carson Cannons 18 and under baseball team went 2-2 in a tournament this past weekend in Redding, Calif. in preparation of their own event, which will be held this weekend.


At Redding, Carson defeated Bases Loaded 8-1 and the Chico Nuts 9-4. Josh Camper pitched a completed game for the win against Bases Loaded and Eric Melendez pitched a complete game for the win against Chico. Matt Bowman, Ryan Gonzalez and Owen Brolsma also hit home runs in the tournament for the Cannons (11-3-2).


Carson will host the Sierra Slam Tournament, with games being held at Carson High and Governors Field. The eight-team event will feature teams from the area and California.


The Cannons will play all their games at Carson High. On Saturday, they will play at 11:45 a.m. against Bases Loaded and at 2:30 p.m. against the Sparks Tribe. On Sunday, they will play the Rebels from California at 9 a.m. and the Galena Grizzlies at 11:45 a.m.
