Obituaary: Jovita N. Snodgrass McLean

A memorial Mass for Jovita N. Snodgrass McLean, 83, a Carson City resident for the past 55 years, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.

Mrs. McLean died April 24, 2002, at her home. She was born Feb. 15, 1919, in Manila Philippines to Francisco and Juana Cosme Natividad.

Before moving to Carson City, she lived in Manila.

She received a teaching certificate at Normal College of the Philippines and a bachelor of science degree in education.

Mrs. McLean was the Carson High tennis coach and Western Nevada Community College tennis coach. She was Nevada Teacher of the Year. She was a member of the Carson City Tennis Club and was instrumental in developing the Carson City Recreation Department. Tennis was her life's passion. She was a member of the Catholic faith.

Among her survivors are her sons George James Snodgrass of Carson City and Dwight L. Snodgrass of Reno; daughters Sheila Corcoran of Spokane, Wash. and Nina Grobben of Gardnerville; brothers Isadoro Natividad and Dionisio Natividad, both of West Covina, Calif., and Antonio Natividad, Bobby Natividad and Emilio Natividad, all of Southern California; sister Luna Gonzales of Southern California and Francis Colford of Boston, Mass; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory. FitzHenry's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
