Obituary: Jay Erwin Brown

Jay Erwin Brown, a Yerington resident for the past four years died July 29, 2002 at home. He was 68.

Mr. Brown was born March 4, 1934 in Kewanee, Ill., to Harold and Hattie Brown.

He married Jeanne Telles Sept. 7, 1957.

Prior to living in Yerington he lived for 34 years with his family in Murphys, Calif.

He graduated from Berkeley High School in Berkeley, Calif., worked for Pacific Gas & Electric.

He served as a platoon sergeant in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1953 to 1955 when he was honorably discharged.

He returned to work with PG&E as a lineman. In 1959, he joined the Carpenters Union and remained a member until death. He served as superintendent for Baker Construction of Modesto, Calif., the company which specialized in building McDonald's Restaurants in California and Nevada.

He was a charter member of the Moose Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his brother Wilbur "Bill" Brown and a sister Lorraine Brown.

Among his survivors are his wife of 45 years Jeanne of Yerington; son Dennis of Sheep Ranch, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law Judy and Gary Risling of McKinleyville, Calif., daughter Kathleen Brown Bowman of Yerington, Phyllis brown of Murphys; grandchildren Jeannine, Tony and Katie Brown, Emmilee and Mary Risling; great-grandchildren Nicolle, Sara and Zachary; sister Phyllis Cudmore, of Duluth, Minn.; sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Don LeMasurier; brother and sister-in-law Tom and Marcia Brown all of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to the Boys & Girls Club of Mason Valley, 124 N. Main St., Yerington, NV 89447.

Cremation will be under the direction of Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home.
