Another round of the Douglas County-vs-Carson City match has begun as Outback Steakhouse officials look for the right package on the right lot for a new restaurant in the area.

Tony Grappo, joint venture partner for Outback in Nevada and Utah, confirmed the company is working on plans to come to the south side of Carson.

"Nothing's finalized," he said from his Las Vegas office. "We're definitely coming there. The numbers just have to add up right."

Outback is looking seriously at two sites.

One is inside the new Wal-Mart center in Douglas County.

The second is on the Carson City side of the county line, across Highway 395 from Costco.

Outback is apparently still window-shopping. Neither Carson City senior planner Don Canfield, nor Douglas planning manager Mimi Moss had received anything specific from the company.

However, Grappo was confident someone would soon.

"Within three months, we expect to have a final deal," Grappo said, "and to be open next year sometime."
