Local author Nyle Nation plans to autograph copies of his book "The Pine Nut Chronicle" at the Crystal Kaleidoscope in Gardnerville from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Recently republished by Pine Nut Press, Nation's book "takes the reader on an odyssey of intriguing mining adventures and happenings that extended across foothills, canyons and slopes of the majestic Pine Nut Mountains."

The 200-plus pages in the book include many vignettes from the lives of early settlers in the Carson Valley, numerous photographs and nine maps. This edition of "The Pine Nut Chronicle" features an introduction by former Sen. Lawrence E. Jacobsen of Minden.

Crystal Kaleidoscope, next to Scolari's in Gardnerville, has carried "The Pine Nut Chronicle" since it was first published in 1991.

Store owner Louis Swisher said, "It's the only book I know of anywhere that deals with the Pine Nut Mountains. It makes a unique present that teaches you about the history of the Pine Nuts and the Carson Valley."

For more information, call the Crystal Kaleidoscope at 782-5552. Store hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week. Beginning Dec. 13 and continuing through Christmas, the hours will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day.

In Carson City "The Pine Nut Chronicle" can be purchased at the Nevada Legislature's Publications and Gift Shop or at the Nevada State Museum bookstore. Call Pine Nut Press (775) 267-3703 for the nearest location or to order the book by phone.
