Douglas girls win two in Lady Bulldog Classic

The Douglas High girls basketball team opened with two wins on Thursday at the Lady Bulldog Classic hosted by defending state champion Centennial.


Douglas opened pool play by beating Pahrump 46-30 and Cimarron-Memorial 52-42. The Tigers will finish pool play at noon today against Las Vegas. The tournament will conclude on Saturday.


Julie Gingrich scored 13 points and Emily Haas added 11 points against Pahrump. Haas scored 24 points and Erin Brinkmeyer added 13 points against Cimarron.


Douglas coach Werner Christen said he was pleased with his team's play against Cimarron. The Tigers led 28-24 at halftime and extended their lead to 45-28 after three quarters.


"They were a lot more athletic than we were," Christen said. "We probably played the best we've play all year.


We were a little sluggish in the fourth quarter. We didn't play well in the fourth quarter. We were pretty happy with the results."
