Talia Joyce was the only Carson Senator to score in double figures in their 40-31 win over Service High (Anchorage, Alaska) in the first round of the McQueen Tournament on Friday afternoon in Reno.

Joyce finished with 12 points and Andrea Hoff scored eight and Katie Kotter added six more for Carson, which will play either Pyramid Lake or Sparks in the second round today at 5 p.m.

The Senators led 21-19 at halftime and only 30-29 after the third quarter. But Carson outscored the Cougars 13-2 in the final quarter, helped by 5-of-7 shooting from the free throw line and field goals by Hoff, Tabitha Adams and Terah Laack.

Adams and freshman Nicole Scott both finished with five points. Service High was led by Bonnielee Prasil and Sarah Jones, who each scored 10 points.
