Douglas wrestling wins Carson Valley event

Douglas High came away with the team title at the Carson Valley Lions Invitational in wrestling that it hosted over the weekend.


The Tigers finished with 168.5 points to outdistance second place Reno, which had 134 points. Galena placed third with 125 points and 3A Yerington had an impressive showing, placing fourth with 100 points.


Among the local individual champions were Galena's Joel Rivadeneya (103 pounds) and Micah Parker (119), Yerington's Kevin Brown (145) and Daniel Lemos (152) and Douglas High's Nate Bennett (171). Other top local finishers were:


103 -- Ryan Martinez, Douglas, third; 112 -- Jay Lemos, Yerington, fourth; 119 -- Matt Yaquinto, Douglas, third; 125 -- Bradley Johnson, Douglas, second and Steve Gutierrez, Yerington, fourth.


130 -- Kyle Knox, Galena, third; 135 -- Justin Ellmaker, Galena, second; 140 -- David Kirn, Galena, third; 145 -- Raymond Gabriel, Douglas, fourth; 152 -- Dart Johnson, Douglas, second and Robert Turek, Galena, third.


160 -- David Tingle, Douglas, fourth; 215 -- Dan Molina, Douglas, second; heavyweight -- Jeremiah Jones, Galena, third and Joe Immers, Douglas, fourth.
