Obituary: Bettie Jean Shaw

A memorial service for Bettie Jean Shaw, 76, a Carson City resident for the past 40 years, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Masonic Lodge in Carson City.

Mrs. Shaw died Jan. 14, 2002, at Carson-Tahoe Hospital. She was born July 22, 1925, in Shidler, Okla., to Robert and Lorene Mabe Price.

Before moving to Carson City, she lived in Sacramento, Calif.

Mrs. Shaw was employed as a telephone operator. She was a Protestant and a member of the Stewart Community Baptist Church. She was an active member of Esther Chapter 3 Order of the Eastern Star, Ammon-Ra Temple 56 Daughters of the Nile and Sierra Sage Shrine, White Shrine of Jerusalem. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, reading and traveling.

She was preceded in death by her foster mother Bessie Conners in 2001.

Among her survivors are her husband Austin of Carson City; son Gerald Busch of San Antonio, Texas; daughters Norma Jean Russell of Orangevale, Calif. and Lonnie Ruesch of St. George, Utah; brother R.V. Price of Sulpher Springs, Texas; sister Opal Lynch of Carson City; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A private burial will be at Lone Mountain Cemetery.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
