He will take over the position, vacated in May, on July 8.
Chinnock has been deputy director heading the Division of Assessment Standards since July 2001. He also had a long career with the Nevada Air National Guard, including service in the Gulf War.
He is a brigadier general currently serving the Air Guard as Chief of Staff.
"With Chuck's background in the Department of Taxation and his longtime distinguished career with the Nevada Air National Guard, he has the perfect blend of leadership and experience to guild the department of Taxation during difficult economic times," said Gov. Kenny Guinn.
He replaces Dave Pursell, who retired in May after 25 years with the department.
Chinnock said he would like to continue the course set by Pursell and that he is looking forward to working with the Governor's Task Force on Tax Policy.
