BISHOP, CALIF. AREA: Gary Olson of the Bishop Creek Resorts (760-873-4484) sent in this report: The weather continues to be great. We are in the low 80's. The nights are cooling off which makes it nice for sleeping.

South Lake: The fishing has been great. There have been numerous reports of large fish being broken off as they approach the boats. With the huge stocking we got last week, we are guessing them to be German browns. Most of the break-offs have been with Rapala lures. Trolling with a No. 11, rainbow Rapala lure has been very effective. Most anglers are coming out with limits or close to it. Many boaters have been going to the inlet, sitting right in the stream and doing exceedingly well with nightcrawlers or salmon eggs.

North Lake and Intake No 2: Fishing was great at both North Lake and Intake No. 2. Heavy stocking led to nice stringers. Rainbow or yellow Power Bait stole the show with lots of action. Red/gold Thomas Buoyant lures were awesome.

Sabrina Lake: No report.

Bishop Creek: The top two trout of the week were a 3-pound, 8-ounce rainbow on salmon eggs and a 3-pound, 7-ounce rainbow while jigging a Trout Trap. The water level remains good and everything was stocked this week, including Alpers Trophy Rainbow Trout. Reports of good fishing all over with salmon eggs or nightcrawlers. Some good action with Power Bait. Good fly action in Weir Pond with Mosquitoes or Royal Coachman flies.

Upper and Lower Blue Lakes: Catching limits of rainbows from shore on Power Bait and inflated worms. The black flies and the mosquitoes are fierce, so bring plenty of repellent.

Upper and Lower Sunset Lakes: A hiker was reported to be OK after falling, hurting his leg and knocking himself out.

East Carson: Good fishing with spinning gear, bobber and flies. One angler caught and released 8 rainbows. The largest was 3 pounds. Was planted yesterday for the Fourth.

Silver Creek: Good fishing with spinning gear, bobber and flies.

West Carson: A number of limits. Larry Sigafus of Gardnerville caught a 4-pound, 7-ounce rainbow on a 1/8 ounce Roostertail lure. Was planted yesterday for the Fourth.

FRENCHMAN RESERVOIR, CALIF: Wiggin's Trading Post at Chilcoot (530-993-4683) reported: Trollers are going deep now -- about 4 colors of leadcore line. Bank fishermen are floating nightcrawlers or rainbow or Captain America Power Bait. Cooper colored Dick Nit lures with a pink tip are also a good choice. The afternoon hatch for fly fishermen has been great. The days have been hot so fish early.

LAKE TAHOE, CALIF. - North Shore:

Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters (800-877-1462): "My fishermen are catching average sized Mackinaw trout with an occasional rainbow. I've been tagging and releasing most of the smaller ones. We've been trolling 250-550 feet deep in the area in front of Carnelian Bay and King's Beach. We are using Herring Dodger flasher blades with either live minnows or pearl Apex lures.

Gene St. Denis of Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552): "We've been trolling at depths of 130-250 off of Cal-Neva Point and Dollar Point with a silver Herring Dodger flasher blade and a live minnow."

LAKE TAHOE, CALIF. - South Shore: Gene St. Denis said: "The Macks are stacked from 130-to 250 feet deep. We've been trolling in front of Camp Richardson with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows. Jigging has also been good with white Herring jigs tipped with a minnow."

LAKE TAHOE, NEV. -- East Shore:

Gene St. Denis said: "Cave Rock is a little slow but steady. Jigging has been the most effective method. We're using a white jig, tipped with a live minnow. Either a two-ounce or four-ounce jig depending on the wind."

TOPAZ LAKE, CALIF. AND NEV.): South end has been best for boaters still-fishing at a depth of 20 feet with either Power Bait or worms.

LOWER TWIN LAKE: Steve Marti of the Twin Lake Resort at Lower Twin Lake (760-932-7751) sent in this report: A 6-pound, 5-ounce rainbow on a nightcrawler, a 5-pound, 12-ounce rainbow with a black/white Rapala lure, a 5-pound rainbow while trolling with a green/orange Rapala lure and a 4-pound, 4-ounce rainbow while trolling with a Thomas Buoyant lure. Corina Duncan of Vacaville, Calif. won the Heaviest Fish award at the Gini-Marie Women's Fishing Derby. She teamed with her partner Karen Parroff, also from Vacaville, to win the Heaviest Stringer award.

UPPER TWIN LAKE: Dick Christianson of Mono Village (760-932-7071) sent in this report: Catch of the season was a 8-pound, 3-ounce rainbow on a red Hot Shot lure. Pat Barr of Carson City caught a 4-pound German brown on a Woolly Bugger fly. Mono Village planted 60 German browns and rainbows that averaged 4-7 pounds each.

WILDHORSE RESERVOIR NEV: Dennis Dunn of the Wild Horse Resort (775) 758-6472. reported: "Well, it's steady but not hot. They are catching some nice trout but not a whole lot of them. Three guys were trolling and found big fish at a depth of 35 feet. They caught 7 rainbows in the 2-3 pound class. They were using silver flasher blades with a black/brown Woolly Worm fly on about a No. 6 hook. The perch are hitting white jigs, tipped with a piece of worm. Doug Busey of Douglas County caught 3 Channel Catfish that weighed a total of 25 pounds. He was fishing from shore at Hot Creek. The fly fishing is great for everything."

WINNEMUCCA LAKE, CALIF: The lake is completely ice free. Still lots of snow drifts around the lake. Some scattered patches on the trail. Good fishing from shore for Eastern brook and Kamloop trout with either gold Kastmaster or red/white TOR-P-DO lures.
