A service for George W. McAllister, 80, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Gall Catholic Church in Gardnerville.
There will be a gathering for family and friends after the service in the Pastoral Center to share memories.
Mr. McAllister died July 11, 2002. He was born June 22, 1922, in Smith Valley, to George W. and Janie McKay McAllister, one of the first babies Dr. Mary Fulston delivered.
He was raised in Antelope Valley, Calif. His parents were natives of Antelope Valley and were born there in 1881. His grandfather cut timber for the Virginia City mines in the 1860s and '70s.
He graduated from Douglas County High School and attended the University of Nevada.
He worked for the H.F. Dangberg Land & Livestock Co. for 36 years until his retirement in 1978 as company manager.
Among his survivors are his wife of 60 years Rose Borda McAllister of Minden; sister Ella Linscott of Yerington; daughter and son-in-law Patricia Rose McAllister and Fred Schwake of Smith Valley; son and daughter-in-law Michael Ray and Carla Wetzel McAllister of Minden; grandchildren Rick Canatsey, Robert Canatsey, Christy Canatsey Malarchuk, Michelle McAllister Hanson, Tara McAllister Daggs, Michael McAllister Jr., Ryan Wetzel, Erin Wetzel, Bonnie Schwake Smith and Lena Schwake Reseck and 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
