Obituary: Wayne Thomas 'Kid' Curry

Wayne Thomas "Kid" Curry, 54, an Independence, Mo., resident, will be buried with full military honors at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Leavenworth National Cemetery in Kansas City, Mo.

A viewing will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Marts Memorial Services, 14 Westport Road, Kansas City, Mo.

Mr. Curry died June 7, 2002, of heart complications. He was born March 31, 1948, in Brooklyn Naval Hospital in New York State. He was raised in New York and lived there until he joined the military.

Before moving to Independence, he lived in Sacramento, moving from Carson City where he lived for 21 years.

He received two associate's degrees from Western Nevada Community College.

Mr. Curry worked for the Nevada Department of Prisons for 18 years.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years and was in Vietnam. He was a member of the National Guard in Carson City.

He was preceded in death by his father Timothy, brother Timothy and two sisters.

Among his survivors are his wife of 18 years Karen of Independence; mother Thelma Curry of New York; sisters Betty Coleman and Tammy Branham, both of New York; brother William Curry; daughter and son-in-law Sonya M. and Thomas Warne and daughter Dora L. Rickards, all of Carson City; stepchildren Lisa Locke and Heather Wilson, both of Blue Springs, Mo., and John Glueck of Yuba City, Calif.; 13 grandchildren and other extended family members.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart Foundation.
