Carson High School's Frank Bleuss, along with Javier Vega and Jesse Gutierrez of Dayton and Amanda Crabb of Virginia City were among the NIAA-Chevron High Performance Athletes of the Week for the week of October 14-19.

Bluess, a senior who missed the better part of three games with a concussion earlier in the season, rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns on 14 attempts (8.2 yards per carry) and passed for 53 yards and two touchdowns in Carson's 56-7 Sierra League football victory at North Valleys.

Teammate Chris Kotter, a senior running back, was also honored for the week of Oct. 7-12 for a performance in which he had 18 carries for 215 yards and three touchdowns in Carson's 42-14 victory at Wooster.

On the soccer field, Vega tallied six goals and four assists as Dayton posted a 2-1 record in Norther 3A action for the week of October 16-19.

Vega, a senior, had two hat tricks in the three games.

"Two hat tricks in one week is impressive. He has never been carded. He is a great leader," said Dayton coach Tim Logan.

Gutierrez added eight goals and three assists for the week. Gutierrez, a junior, has 16 goals on the season. The Dust Devils fell 6-5 against Yerington before rebounding for a 9-0 win at Fernley and a 4-1 victory against Lowry.

"He is a team captain and a great team player. He (also) had two hat tricks in one week," said Logan.

Crabb had five kills, 11 digs and eight service points in a 1A Northern volleyball win against McDermitt. Crabb, a senior, served at a 100-percent clip for the Muckers.

The NIAA staff selects one boy and one girl each week from each of the four classifications to be the NIAA-Chevron High Performance Athlete of the Week. Coaches and administrators are responsible for nominating candidates.
