The first Statehood Stomp, a fund-raiser for Nevada Day events, is planned for 5 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the Fuji Park Exhibit Hall.

Nevada Day Committee President Virginia Nuzum said Wednesday tickets are on sale for $30 and will be available at the door.

The fund-raiser features all-you-can eat chicken, ribs and fixings by Carson City BBQ, country and rock music by Exit 22 and Rick Hayes and the American Steel Band and a no-host bar.

The Nevada Day Committee, Carson City Kiwanis Club and Nevada Appeal are sponsoring the dinner and dance.

The fund-raiser idea came about when two of Nevada Day's sponsors dropped out because of economic reasons, said committee Vice President Ron Bowman.

"Nevada Day is pretty much depends on sponsorships and the entry fees from the parade," Bowman said. "Our sponsorships really lagged this year." He blamed the bad economy.

"So we thought the week before Nevada Day (celebrated Oct. 25 this year) seemed like a good time to hold a kickoff fund-raiser," he said.

Bowman, who also is a past Kiwanis president, said proceeds from Saturday's fund-raiser will benefit the club's community charity work as well.

He said prizes will be raffled off and a silent auction may be held.

For those diners and dancers who want to preserve their memories of the first Statehood Stomp, Little People Portraits employees will take pictures of them in western costumes near an authentic buckboard, Bowman said.

He said Exhibit Hall decorations are going up Thursday night and will serve a dual purpose.

"The Girl Scouts are holding their annual Halloween party Friday," Bowman said. "We're putting up hay stacks and the buckboard so the decorations will be used by them, too."
