Carson tennis teams sweep Hug

The Carson High boys tennis team warmed up with its showdown against Douglas by beating Hug on Tuesday 19-3.5 at Centennial Park.

Hug had only six players as Carson (2-2) cruised to the win. The Senators will host Douglas on Thursday at Centennial Park.

"We'll see what kind of team we are when we face Douglas," Carson coach Pat Houlihan said. "We'll see what happens."

Against Hug in singles, Josh Brekken won 6-1 and Andrew Araza won 6-0 in the first round. John McDonald and John Whitmore were also impressive in a 6-0 win in doubles in the first round.

"They started real strong," said Houlihan about McDonald and Whitmore.

Also in singles, Andrew Roullard was impressive in a 6-0 win and Josh Caron won 6-4 for Carson. In doubles, Brandon Waterman and Zach Caron won 6-2, Tim Suchsland and Scott Walker won 6-2, Tyler Lewis and Chris McEachern won 6-4 and Jeremy Grunert and Devon Anderson won 6-4 for Carson. James Reevis also played well in his first match in a 4-6 loss in singles for the Senators.

CARSON GIRLS 20.5, HUG 2

In preparation for their match against rival Douglas on Thursday, the Senators had an easy time with the Hawks on Tuesday.

Janae Jeppsom won all three of her single matches by a 6-1 margin. The duo of Katie Elverum and Staci Cobbler also won all three of matches against Hug, which only won two singles matches against Carson.

With the win, the Senators improve their record to 2-2.
