Obituary: Marvin Carr

A funeral for Marvin Carr, 65, a Yerington resident for the past 41 years, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Smith Valley Methodist Church in Smith with Pastor Tom Walburn officiating.

A reception will follow at the Yerington/Mason Valley Fire Station, 11 Pacific St., Yerington.

Mr. Carr died Sept. 17, 2002, at the South Lyon Medical Center of cancer. He was born in Salida, Colo., to Chester and Irene McCollum Carr.

He graduated from Smith Valley High School.

He married Nancy Wines in Smith Valley on July 17, 1955.

Mr. Carr served in Nevada's fire service for more than 40 years. He served in several fire service capacities, the majority in Lyon County with the Yerington/Mason Valley Fire Department and the Central Lyon County Fire Protection District as district chief. He last served as the Nevada State Fire Marshal.

He served in the U.S. Army National Guard for nine years.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1973 and sister Carol Carr Seal in 1997.

Among his survivors are his wife Nancy of Yerington; son and daughter-in-law Gene and Kathy of Sparks; son Steven and friend Linda of Fernley; brother Bill Young of Reno; mother and stepfather Irene and C.W. Hamilton of Yerington; grandchildren Kristina Carr of Carson City and Dennis and Devin Carr of Sparks.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Walker River Basins Foundation.

Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
