DAVIS LAKE, CALIF: Don and Elaine Quilici of Carson City reported that the weather was bitter cold and very windy on Thursday and they did not fish. They saw a man and wife, shore fishing. They were wearing wool caps, wool gloves, down coats and had a fire going to keep them warm....at 1 p.m.

INDIAN CREEK RESERVOIR. CALIF: Dave Kirby of the Woodfords Station at Woodfords (530-694-2930) checked in and said, "I'm staying in by the fire and keeping warm, today (Monday morning). We had no humans over the weekend due to the big snowstorm. We had heavy rain and then it changed to snow. We got about 8 inches of snow, here at the store. They had a foot at 6,000' and there was more than three feet of new snow over 7,500'. In fact, the road was closed most of the last two days, on either side of Kirkwood."

There were a few decent fish caught, but nothing worth writing home about. People usually fish at Pyramid when they can't fish anywhere else, but this last weekend, it seemed as if almost everyone stayed home.

Redding to Anderson: Flows at 3,500 C.F.S. Rainbow trout fishing is fair to good with 8-20 fish per day. Using spinning gear with Glo-Bugs. Fly fishing with Nymphs, PT Nos. 14 & 16, and egg pattern flies. Watch for fishing to be looking up as the bug hatches will be great as warm Spring weather approaches. Rain off and on this week.

SHASTA LAKE, CALIF: Kirk Portocarrero said water is clear. Fishing for rainbow trout and landlock kings turning up, as warm weather has arrived. This week, you'll have to bring rain gear. Using Rapala and Rebel lures. Watch for fishing to improve as Shad appear in large schools.

LAKE TAHOE -- North Shore:

Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters (800-877-1462) said: "We have more than two feet of snow outside, but thank goodness, none in the house (Sunday night)! I did not go out Saturday or today because of the weather. I've been too busy shoveling!

When I can get out, the fishing remains good for average-sized Mackinaw trout, early in the morning.

Some of the larger Macks are going up to 7-8 pounds. I've been tagging and releasing the smaller ones.

We've been trolling 250-550 feet deep in the area in front of Carnelian Bay and King's Beach.

We are using silver, Herring Dodger flasher blades with live minnows or large Apex lures."

Gene St. Denis of Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552) said "We got about 2-3 feet of snow over the weekend. At the height of the storm, as I was driving down the street, the steering tie-rod broke on my pickup. The next thing I knew I was off the road and in the trees. I did not get hurt but I had one heck of a ride.

When I can get out, the Mackinaw fishing is still excellent at Dollar Point, Cal-Neva Point and Carnelian Bay.

We've been trolling 200-280 feet deep with large, silver, Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows.

The Macks are running 3-7 pounds. The biggest have been up to 10 pounds.

LAKE TAHOE -- South Shore: No report.

LAKE TAHOE -- East Shore: Gene St. Denis said: "The usual report. When the weather lets you get out on the lake, we are catching Macks in the 2-5 pound class on the Cave Rock Shelf.

We have been trolling 180-260 feet deep with silver, Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows.

Jigging has also been successful with white, Crippled Herring jigs, tipped with a live minnow.

Toplining has also improved for rainbows between Logan Shoals and Zephyr Cove with No. 9 or No. 11 Sliver/black Rapala lures at a depth of 20-30 feet."

TOPAZ LAKE: Chuck Fields of the Topaz Lake Marina (775-266-3550) reported: "Same report as last week. Fishing really slowed down with the bad weather and the storm fronts coming through the area.

Trollers are going deeper and catching bigger fish. Trolling 20-25 feet deep, using medium-sized flashers with a nightcrawler or with black/silver or gold/silver Rapala lures. Some trollers doing good with Needlefish lures. Others are using 3-4 colors of leadcore line.

The trout are running 2-3 pounds.

Shore fishing remains slow.

WILDHORSE RESERVOIR NEV: Dennis Dunn of the Wild Horse Resort (775-758-6472) reported: "We've got about 6 inches of snow on the ground and it is snowing like hell, outside. (Monday morning). Big, heavy, wet flakes. A couple of boat fishermen caught their limits yesterday. They were trolling Mepps spinners and Roostertail lures with a nightcrawler. A fisherman in a kayak caught his limit of German browns and rainbows (2-3 pounds) with a black Mepps lure on the surface. He was over on the back side of the reservoir. Tell your readers that our new cook Olivia has opened up the "Wild Horse Cookery" for all kinds of special-order cooking and that our rooms are currently 20 percent off. Also tell them to bring their shotguns for shooting clays."
