The Ron Wood Family Resource Center has appointed a new executive director, Jill Manit. She will be a welcome addition, bringing fresh ideas.

A native of Reno, Manit has worked with several substance abuse prevention coalitions throughout the state. With extensive experience in community organizing and coalition building, she hopes to enhance the services provided to families and youth in Carson City.

One of her newest ideas is "Break Free." It will focus on empowering teen girls, dealing with topics like communication, family situations, drugs/alcohol, healthy relationships, victimization, self-image, self health, and goal planning. If you are interested in this program for your daughter, see below for more information.

OK, it's time to get out the fishing poles and check your tackle boxes. The Carson City Elks Lodge has planned fun for the family at Davis Creek -- Tommy's free, annual fishing derby for kids.

Also listed are two fund-raisers for scholarship programs. You pick the fun E from golf to tea.
