Gardnerville burglar shot dead by resident

A man was shot dead by a Gardnerville resident Saturday night after he broke into a house on Log Cabin Road, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

The resident called 911 at about 11:25 p.m. saying a man was trying to get into the house. When he broke in soon after, the resident shot him.

The victim, whose name has not been released pending notification of family, was transported to Carson Valley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy was scheduled for late Sunday.

The name of the resident is also being withheld as an investigation into the shooting continues. No charges have been filed in the case.
