Supreme Court rejects four requests for new trials

The Nevada Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected petitions seeking new trials from two murderers, a sex offender and a kidnapper.

Juan Andres Reyes was convicted of murder and sentenced to two consecutive life terms in prison. DeAundray Gaston was also convicted of murder and sentenced to two consecutive life terms. Both men have the chance of parole.

Raymond Oscar Laymon was convicted of two counts of sexual assault on a child under age 14 and four counts of lewdness with a child. He was also sentenced to life in prison with possible parole.

Henry Lee Bias was convicted of burglary and robbery and, after he was ruled an habitual criminal, he too received life in prison.

All four exhausted their direct appeals and petitioned for new trials, charging that their lawyers were ineffective.

After a review, the high court agreed with the district judges in each case and rejected the claims. All the sentences given the four men in their separate cases will stand.
