Leslie Hugh Knott II

A funeral for Leslie Hugh Knott II, 60, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Masonic Memorial Gardens Chapel, 435 Stoker in Reno.

Following the memorial, there will be one last tailgate party at the Little Waldorf.

Mr. Knott died Dec. 8, 2003, in Reno. He was born Dec. 2, 1943, in Marion, Ohio, to John Leslie and Esther Schorr Knott.

He played high school football and was a two-time wrestling champion. He received a bachelor of science degree in biology in 1966 from Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Ohio, where he was a Sigma Nu and earned awards both in sports and academics.

During the Tet Offensive in 1968 and 1969, he led his platoon as a first lieutenant and executive officer for the U.S. Army in Vietnam, earning a Bronze Star and Army Commendation Medal.

He moved to Reno in 1970 to attend graduate school at UNR.

Mr. Knott worked in sales for Air Products and Chemicals in Long Beach, Calif., before becoming a pharmaceutical salesman based in Carson City. In 1976, he became a State Farm Insurance Agent, earning company honors including the Bronze Tablet Award. He planned to retire later this month.

He was a former board member for the Reno March of Dimes and a Pop Warner football coach in Carson City. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a Shriner and a member of the Royal Order of Jesters. He was the current membership chairman for the Reno Shrine.

Among his survivors are his daughter, Andrea of Corona del Mar, Calif.; sons Gregory and John of Reno; sister, Rebecca Deuben of Marietta, Ga., and fiancee Sharon Grecian of Gardnerville.
