Galena girls hoops falls against Reed

The Galena High girls basketball team was a three-point shot away from having a chance to give Reed its first loss in the High Desert League on Wednesday.


Galena lost 49-46 after Stacey Raits' three-point shot at the buzzer that would have forced overtime went in and out. The Grizzlies fell to 6-5 in league play while Reed improved to 11-0.


The Grizzlies still have a chance for third in league if it can beat Elko and McQueen loses to second place Fallon on Saturday. McQueen is 7-4 in league.


The game with Reed was close throughout as the Raiders led 16-15 after one quarter. The game was tied 24-24 at halftime before Reed took a 39-34 lead after three quarters.


Caitlin Anderson scored 12 points, Joanna Hixon had 11 points and Raits added 10 points for Galena.
