Obituary: Gregory Carl Merritt

Gregory Carl Merritt, 50, a Carson City resident for the past 28 years, died Feb. 22, 2003, in Carson City. He was born Aug. 28, 1952, in San Francisco to Robert and Deana Meadows Merritt.

He was first-team all-state first base for the Wilcox High School Baseball Team in Santa Clara, Calif.

Before moving to Carson City, he lived in Santa Clara.

Mr. Merritt worked in the food and beverage industry. He was past manager of Stanley's Restaurant in Carson City and past owner of Merritt's at the Airport. He was an avid baseball player and Little League coach and played in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa. He was an accomplished guitar player.

Among his survivors are his mother of Spokane, Wash.; son, Christopher of Carson City; brother, Gary of Burlson, Texas; sister, Pamela Merritt Rizzio of Carson City; and nephews Mark Merritt of Burlson, Robert Chiappe of Spokane and John Vidovich of Carson City.

A private memorial will be at a later date.

Inurnment will be in Lone Mountain Cemetery.
