The fishermen are mostly using worms or jigging with small lures with Power Bait on the treble hook of the lure.

INDIAN CREEK RESERVOIR. CALIF: Dave Kirby reported that Doug Busey of Douglas County checked in with a 6-pound, 5-ounce rainbow that he caught from shore with Potski's green-colored Power Bait. Late in the afternoons, the reservoir is about half open water. In the early mornings, there is a skim of ice on that open water. Afternoons are your best time to fish. An unconfirmed report of a local fly fisherman who reportedly caught a 6 pounder and a 9 pounder, while using Woolly Bugger flies.

Summit Lake (above Indian Creek Reservoir): No report.

PYRAMID LAKE, NEV: Lawrence Quadrio of the Gilly Sporting Goods Store in Sparks (358-6113) reported that the boaters seem to be doing the best, especially while trolling with a Lyman lure. That lure is mad of wood, had very bright colors and is like a J-Plug lure. A friend of his used a Lyman lure to catch an 8 pound cutthroat on Sunday.

Other trollers were using Flatfish, TOR-P-DO, Rapala or Rebel lures.

Spincasters were using the usual colors of TOR-P-DO lures.

Fly fishing was sporadic. It is best at "The Nets" in the early mornings or late afternoons when the sun is off the water. The fish seem to be moving into the shallower water when the sun goes off the water.

SACRAMENTO RIVER. CALIF: Kirk Portocarrero of Outdoor Adventures Sport Fishing in Redding (800-670-4448) checked in and said: "Same report as last week":

Redding to Anderson: Flows at 18,000 C.F.S. rainbow trout fishing is fair. Up and down. Water is high and moving fast. Using spinning gear and Flatfish lures. Fly fishing using Nymphs and PT's.

SILVER LAKE, CALIF: No report.

SHASTA LAKE, CALIF: Kirk Portocarrero said, "Water is great. Bass fishing is excellent. Plastic worms, live minnows and grubs are producing 1-3 pound spotted bass. Some rainbow trout being caught on the surface, using Rapala and Rebel lures."

STAMPEDE RESERVOIR, CALIF: No report.

LAKE TAHOE -- North Shore:

Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters (800-877-1462) said: "My anglers have been doing very well with good action for Mackinaw Trout. Some of the larger Macks are going up to 7-8 pounds. I've been tagging and releasing the smaller ones. We've been trolling 250-550 feet deep in the area in front of Carnelian Bay and King's Beach. We are using silver, Herring Dodger flasher blades with either live minnows or large Apex lures."

Gene St. Denis of Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552) said "The Mackinaw fishing is still very good in front of Dollar Point and Cal-Neva Point. We are catching good number of Mackinaws. We've been trolling slow at 160-280 feet deep with large, silver, Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows."

LAKE TAHOE -- South Shore: No report.

LAKE TAHOE -- East Shore: Gene St. Denis said: "The fishing has been good on the Cave Rock Shelf.

We have been trolling 160-280 feet deep with silver flasher blades and live minnows.

Getting Macks in the 3-5 pound class with an occasional one up to about 8 pounds.

Jiggers has also been successful jigging with white, Crippled Herring jigs, tipped with a live minnow.

Toplining for Rainbows at Deadman's Point and Logan Shoals.

When we fish for the rainbows we troll close to shore on calm days at a depth of 10-25 feet, with silver/black, No. 5 or No. 7 floating Rapala or small Rebel lures. Be careful of the rocks, because the lake level is down."

TOPAZ LAKE, CALIF. AND NEV.: Chuck Fields of the Topaz Lake Marina (775-266-3550) reported: "Fishing has been OK, it is about the same as last week. There were not a lot of fishermen over the weekend but I suspect that it was due to the Super Bowl. Most of the action for shore fishermen is off the north shore. They are using nightcrawlers or Chartreuse Power Bait. The boats are trolling about 100 yards of shore. The fish have moved out toward the center of the lake. The best action has been in the top 10 feet of water with rainbow or perch-colored Rapala lures.

WILDHORSE RESERVOIR NEV: Dennis Dunn of the Wild Horse Resort (775-758-6472) reported: "The fishing has been red-hot for lots of perch and some very nice-sized trout. The fishermen are mostly jigging with white jigs and a piece of mealworm. The most productive area has been in front of the State Park boat ramp. On Saturday, in that area, they counted 66 people out on the ice, including snowmobiles and ATV's."
