You can find diversity this month throughout the area, from Carson Valley to Lake Tahoe. Golf tournaments, a little Shakespeare, cancer awareness, Carson City Republican Women' luncheon and Carson library events are coming our way.

Eagle Valley Golf Course and Carson Sertoma Club will host a golf tournament memorializing the late Jon Plank. All the proceeds will benefit the East Course Tree Fund.

Plank, who recently died, was a dedicated Carson county supervisor and a longtime Carson Sertoma member. The event will help beautify the city golf course. Play and enjoy a day in memory of Plank for giving so much to the community.

Lake Tahoe again will host the Shakespeare Festival at Sand Harbor, starting July 17. This year, there is a great children's program based on the educational outreach, "Young Shakespeare." The program will introduce children to the wonders of theater and Shakespeare's amazing works.

The free plays are a way for the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival to give back to the community. So move over Cartwrights -- Shakespeare is taking over Sand Harbor this summer! Bring your younguns of all ages to see an hourlong Old West adaptation of "As You Like It."

Carson Valley Skin Cancer Awareness Week starts with a walk for awareness event, which includes a barbecue, skin cancer screening, raffles, prizes, informational material, massage booth and a kids' fun zone. Music at Minden Park will be by the Steppen Stonz. Walk-ins are welcome the day of the event, so get your walking shoes and join the research-for-the-cure event.

Local entertainment for children is easy to find if you know the right person, and I found him. Carson City Youth Service librarian Cory King has some fun planned at the library for children. On Saturday, popular children's singer Nancy Raven will entertain with her lively music. Cory guarantees children will be dancing throughout the summer with his fun events so check your children into reading and see all the coming events.

Kaye Keeton, president of the Carson City Republican Women, has a guest speaker Assemblyman Lynn Hettrick on the topic that is on everyone's mind: "Thoughts On the 2003 Legislative Session." We can only guess there were many thoughts that allowed it to go to the Supreme Court. So if you what to hear the inside track, join the luncheon.

Thank you, Stan Zuber of the local Fly & Tie Fishing group, who donated the leftover hot dog buns to Jubilee Center. A big thank you to Robey and Barbara Willis for throwing the best golf tournament/geriatric event for Ivan Lepire, who turned 60, and Jeanine Wittenberg, who is now 39 and holding.
