Bucks Lake in Northern California is once again home to thousands of brown trout.
A batch of 5,000 trout were released from Bucks Lake Marina and Sandy Point Day Use Area last month -- 2,000 of which were locally grown at the Feather River College Hatchery.
The college hatchery program is raising brown trout eggs and fingerlings.
Once the fingerlings reach 9-10 inches in length, they are transported to Bucks Lake and released.
Approximately 100 of the trout released last month were tagged with equipment donated by the California Dept. of Fish and Game.
The tags are marked with a serial number.
The tag, when returned, offers the bearer a $10 reward and enables field representatives to track what happens to the planted fish.
Bucks Lake was abundant with brown trout prior to the 1940's. However, as Mackinaw and Kokanee Salmon were introduced into the lake, the population of the brown trout dropped drastically.
