Obituary: Orlando 'Lon' Menesini

A funeral Mass for Orlando "Lon" Menesini, 82, a Yerington native, will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 37 N. West St., Yerington.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home in Yerington.

Mr. Menesini died July 28, 2003, at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born Feb. 22, 1921, in Yerington to Joe Sr. and Fortuna Nuti Menesini.

After completing his education in Yerington schools, he worked as a ranch hand at the Plymouth Ranch in Smith Valley. He returned to Yerington to work as the outside hay mill foreman for the People's Packing Co. Later he worked as an equipment operator for Standard Slag then for Jug Glasner Construction and finally for Bob Mathews Construction. He became disabled on the job in 1978.

He married Grace Hughes on June 23, 1946.

He loved hunting and fishing, children and growing tomatoes. He loved to dance and is credited with other family members for creating the Menesini Stomp.

He was preceded in death by his sisters Jeanette Sacchini, Annie Masini, Sandrena Quilici, Linda Murphy, Yolanda Aiazzi and Zelpha Pastorino; and brothers Allen, Pete, Gino, Louis and Danny.

Among his survivors are his wife of 57 years of Yerington; sisters Theresa Moriconi of Yerington and Angie Jarrett of Los Angeles; brother, Joe Jr. of Yerington; sons and daughters-in-law Ed and Cyndi and Don and Cindy, all of Yerington; grandchildren Kristie Menesini, John Goodwill and Trudy Kimball, all of Reno, and Randy Menesini of Yerington and Diana Allen of Kings River; and five great-grandchildren.
