Obituary: Melvyn Medina

A memorial Mass for Melvyn F. Medina, 70, a Nevada resident for the past 14 years, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.

Mr. Medina died May 31, 2003, at his home in Washoe Valley. He was born Aug. 19, 1932, in San Diego, Calif., to Frank and Lucy Bettencourt Medina.

He married Ethel Yriarte on March 15, 1953, in San Diego.

Before moving to Nevada, he lived in San Diego.

Mr. Medina worked for 35 years in his family-owned tuna-fishing businessas the chief engineer. He enjoyed restoring classic cars. He was a member of St. Teresa.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955 and achieved MSSGT as a mechanic.

He was preceded in death by his father in 2000 in San Diego.

Among his survivors are his wife, Ethel of Washoe Valley; mother, Lucy Zamorano of Carson City; sons Frank of Washington and Rudy of San Diego; daughter, Melinda Walker of Washoe Valley; sister, Bernadette Simms of Carson City; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory.

FitzHenry's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
