CAPLES LAKE, CALIF: Doug Busey of Douglas County reported that last week, Norm Pierini of Paradise, Calif. caught an 18-pound, 2-ounce Mackinaw trout. He was trolling in the deeper part of the lake at a depth of about 25 feet with a Rebel lure.

CARSON RIVERS, CALIF: Dave Kirby said, "The West and the East Carson Rivers are both pretty decent. They are still a little high but the water is really clearing up.

East Carson River: No report.

West Carson River: Lots of fish. Not very many limits but lots of happy fishermen with 2-3 fish.

On Saturday, Kristy Garcia of Carson City caught a 4.5 pound rainbow on a Mepps spinner.

On Saturday, Luke Huff of Gardnerville caught a 3.8 pound rainbow on Salmon eggs.

It has been common to see many fish weighing in at 3-4 pounds with most averaging 1.75-2.5 pounds each.

Best locations continue to include Wildcat Point, working North to Pelican Point, and from the Youth Camp south to Eagles Nest.

Trolling Needlefish, Rapalas and nightcrawlers seem to be most productive.

Most fish are being caught at depths of 30-40 feet.

Dale Dory of Carson City caught a 7.25 pound rainbow on Sunday while trolling a red/white Flatfish lure.

LAKE TAHOE -- North Shore:

Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters (800-877-1462) said: "Its been very, very good for limits of Mackinaw trout, very early in the morning.

Some of the larger Macks are going up to about 10-11 pounds. I've been tagging and releasing the smaller ones.

We've been trolling 250-550 feet deep in the area in front of Carnelian Bay and King's Beach.

We are using silver, Herring Dodger flasher blades with live minnows or large Apex lures.

Last Saturday afternoon, I had a group of 14 folks from the Internet website ModernSportsman. com on a sightseeing trip on the north end of the lake."

LAKE TAHOE -- North Shore:

Gene St. Denis of Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552) said, "Mackinaw fishing is even better than it was last week. It is going right off the charts. We are catching 10-26 Macks per trip and they are stuffed with Kokanee salmon and shrimp. The Mackinaw are running from 4 to 17 pounds. The two largest were 17 pounds (36 inches) and 15 pounds (33.5 inches). The other day, we lost one in the 20-25 pound class about 8-10 feet behind the boat. We've been trolling 200-280 feet deep with large, silver, Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows. My trolling areas are Cal-Neva Point, Agate Bay, Dollar Point and in front of Sunnyside. My clients are limiting out in 1-3 hours, even with catch and release fishing."

LAKE TAHOE -- South Shore: Gene St. Denis said the fishing is still holding up for 2-5 pound Macks, off Ski Run Blvd. and Camp Richardson. Either location is best for jigging with a white Star Jig, tipped with a minnow, or trolling 160-240' with flashers and a minnow.

LAKE TAHOE -- East Shore: Gene St. Denis said toplining along the shoreline is best when the sun first comes up. Trolling between Deadman's Point and Skunk Harbor in water 6-15 feet deep with 2-3 inch Rapala lures. Watch out for the rocks, just under the surface.

TOPAZ LAKE: Chuck Fields of the Topaz Marina (775-266-3550) reported the lake is all the way up and "maxed" out for high water level.

There have been lots of limits on the far south end and up in the mouth of the West Walker River.

The boaters are anchored and stillfishing with Power Bait or nightcrawlers on the bottom.

They are limiting out in about a half-day with rainbows in the 2-pound class.

The largest this week was 3-pounds, 2-ounces.

The trollers are trolling at a depth of about 15 feet but not as successful as the anchored boats.

A 6-pound, 15-ounce rainbow on a bubble and fly, a 4.5 pound German brown on a Rapala lure and a 3-pound, 11-ounce rainbow on a Panther/Martin lure.

Upper Twin Lake: Annett's Mono Village ((760) 932-7468) reported a 6-pound rainbow on a gray Crappie Jig and a 2-pound brown on red/white/blue Power Bait. Lots of limits of pan-sized rainbows from boats and shore with all kinds of Power Bait or nightcrawlers.

Channel Cat fishing is best at south end in shallow water or at the Hendricks Creek Arm.

Trout fishing is holding steady.

The fishermen are trolling with worms or rainbow Power Bait or fishing from shore with nighcrawlers.
