Open burning period starts today

The spring 2003 open burning period for the East Fork Fire District begins today and continues through June 1.

Burning hours have changed. Time is 9 a.m. through 3 p.m.

Residents in Minden, Gardnerville, Genoa, Sunridge east of Highway 395, Johnson Lane, East Valley, Fish Springs, Ruhenstroth, Topaz Ranch Estates, Topaz Lake, Ranchos and Sheridan area east of Foothill Road, are required to obtain an open burning regulation form. The form includes information and regulations to ensure a safe burn and maintain compliance with air-quality standards. The form lists the 24-hour non-emergency telephone number that residents are required to call before beginning any burning.

Regulation forms are available at East Fork Fire and Paramedic District Administration Office,1594 Esmeralda Ave., Minden, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Forms are available at each of the Douglas County Sheriff's Department substations: North Valley Substation, 3587 N. Sunridge Road; Tillman Center Substation, 1281 Kimmerling Road, next to the Silver Strike Bowling Alley; TRE Substation, 1470 Albite Drive, Wellington. The substations are open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Residents in the former Sierra Fire Protection District -- Jack's Valley, Indian Hills and west side Foothill Road to the California state line, except the Town of Genoa, must call the East Fork Fire and Paramedic District Office at 783-6415 to schedule an on-site inspection prior to obtaining a burning permit.
