120 YEARS AGO

Sam Wagner, the old pioneer town crier, has decided to relocate to Carson, as he no longer considers Virginia City the proper stomping ground for him. He has lived in Virginia City for nearly a quarter of a century, and we feel warranted in saying that the wickedness of the place never caused old Sam to be any less a Christian. It will be nip and tuck to see if Clem Berry or Wagner will make the most noise. Carson is big enough for two town criers.

100 YEARS AGO

At a packed hearing in Dayton District Court, A. Burali was sentenced for the murder of A. Zari by Judge Murphy to hang between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Nevada State Prison May 15.

70 YEARS AGO

Before an enthusiastic audience, the Leisure Hour Club last night presented "Danger at the Crosswords," a mystery comedy which kept everyone in a state of pleasant horror. (This was a fund-raiser to remodel the clubhouse.)

50 YEARS AGO

John Cahlan, editor of the Las Vegas Review-Journal and a native of Carson City, was elected president of the Nevada State Press Association.

20 YEARS AGO

Editorial lists the Carson High School basketball team as "state champs," against Bonanza, a team that ended Reno's amazing 76-game winning streak. Saluted were coach Alana Williams and her team: Carla Swain, Barbra Morrow, Jaime Brown, Lynn Sanchez, Amy Kimm, Prim Walters, Sarah Kimm, Teresa Dyke, Cyndy Ross, Tiffany Wilcox, Jean Ribas, Jill Cody and team managers Elizabeth Mellor and Jane Uramoto.

10 YEARS AGO

Carson City Sheriff's Protective Association will play a basketball game with the San Francisco 49ers here.
