The Feather River Community College baseball team completed its second straight sweep to begin conference play this past weekend, beating Shasta 8-3, 10-1 and 6-1.

Feather River improved to 17-4 and is ranked No. 3 in Northern California, the highest ranking it has ever received. The Golden Eagles have wins over ranked opponents, American River, Consumnes River, Sacramento City and Delta.

"I was proud of our team this week," Feather River coach Jedd Soto said. "We had to overcome somme unusual miscues on defense and our pitchers battled some location issues. We are working hard to practice every week to improve every element of the game."

In the 10-1 win over Shasta, Galena's Byron Cragg pitched one scoreless inning, allowing no hits.

Other local players on the team are Galena's Rich Cummins, Carson's Tim Priess, Douglas High's Tommy Hoyle and Cal Lewis and Fernley's Tyler Selden.

Feather River will be in Eureka, Calif. this weekend to play College of the Redwoods. The Gilden Eagles will return home to play College of the Siskiyous for a 2 p.m. game March 21 and a doubleheader March 23, beginning at noon. Admission is free.
