William Stratford, 78, of Gardnerville died March 4, 2003, at home after a long illness. He was born in Stratford on Avon, England.
Mr. Stratford was a British merchant seaman during World War II.
He moved to the United States and became a citizen.
He worked in the retail trade until he retired after 27 years. He loved to fish and tend his roses.
Among his survivors are his wife, Wanda Lee; daughter Jennifer Doty; daughter and son-in-law Carol and Barry Sandberg of San Diego; Lorraine, Bud and Ken Higgins; and Felice, Scott, Steve and Jon Aveldson.
A memorial party was held.
Neptune Society of Nevada is in charge of arrangements.
