Eight Bulldog wrestlers win state crowns

Eight wrestlers for the Carson Bulldogs Wrestling Club won titles at the State Freestyle Championships held this past weekend at North Valleys High.


In addition, four wrestlers placed second and seven wrestlers took third. Carson led all teams in the number of wrestlers who placed first, second and third.


Those who won titles were Eric Aguilera, Micah Chalk, J. Alberto Gutierrez, Todd Lani, Ricky McDonald, Ben McDonaldd, Elliott Nevin and Joe Roman.


In addition, five wrestlers won state titles in Greco-Roman wrestling: Ribbie Bozin, Ricky McDonald, Micah Whitcome, Jonas Schenezel and Aguilera.


Wrestlers who placed second in freestyle were Nicolas Garcia, Nick Lani, Garrett Manoukian and Cole McCarthy.


Those who placed third were Will Adler, Daniel Colbert, Pat Craugh, Jorge Gutierrez, Bryce McCullen, Micah Whitcome and Joan Schenezel.


Others who placed were: Fourth -- Brady Okeefe, Kyle Sharp and Nolan Truesdell. Fifth -- Jordan Luhrs and Brandon McCullen. Sixth -- A.J. Winder.


Those who placed in Greco-Roman wrestling were: Second -- Chris Ceccarelli, Willy McDonald and Owen Craugh. Fourth -- Pat Craugh.


The Bulldogs will send 26 wrestlers to the WOW Tournament to be held April 4-6 at the Reno Livestock Events Center. The event will feature 3,000 wrestlers from across the country.


In addition, Bozin, wrestling for Eagle Valley Middle School, was named as the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the Tah-Neva Zone Championships on Saturday. The award goes to the wrestler that demontrates character, sportsmanship and ability.
