Miss Annie Martin, who has been quite sick, is improving. There are no idle mill men in Empire; mill men are compelled to come to Carson for help. The people of this city are subscribing very generously towards building a state militia rifle range here.

Starting of the Reidler pumps on the Comstock was of general interest to the state and word was flashed over the wires that the old lode was to be developed to a greater depth and new life given to the old camp. Franklin Leonard said the great pumps on electric power could not unwater the lower levels ... citing need of the Sutro Tunnel.

70 YEARS AGO

From the High School Pow Wow, the in-paper Appeal feature, high school was filled with excitement for the special students' excursion to San Francisco to see "Old Ironsides." A large number from Carson High left this afternoon.

50 YEARS AGO

Fred Harvey, son of the Rev. and Mrs. John Harvey, had an unusual honor in Seattle at the annual NROTC ring dance when his date was chosen queen and he her prince consort ... Miss Forest Martin. Fred says he inherits his ability to pick queens from his father who picked his mother many years ago.

20 YEARS AGO

Largest rebate in the 70-year-old history of workers compensation in Nevada, $49 million in the mail, checks from $1 to $760,000.

10 YEARS AGO

Featured artist for April at the Nevada Artists Association Gallery is Pat Holub. She enjoys doing old buildings and landscapes.
