Carson's girls were not at full strength against McQueen. Johnson was battling an illness and Lauren Costella has been participating in training for the World University Games in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The zone meet will be held this Friday and Saturday at the University of Nevada, beginning at 2 p.m. each day. The diving will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Carson's boys are the defending zone champions. This year's meet figures to be a three-team race between the Senators, Reno High and Galena.

"It will be interesting to see how all that plays out," Carson coach Monica Weaver said.

Reno is the favorite in the girls meet. "They have a lot of depth, a lot of strong depth," Weaver said.

Carson and Galena figure to battle for second. "I think we'll do well," Weaver said. "We have a lot of veteran swimmers going."
