Work has begun on a memorial to highway workers

Workers set the base of the memorial on Wednesday. The base consists of sandstone blocks carved by prisoners.

According to Fred Hinners, $3,690 in donations from Nevada Division of Transportation workers is going to build the memorial in front of the division's headquarters on Stewart Street.

Hinners said the Teamsters and the State of Nevada Employees Association have also planned donations.
