BISHOP CREEK AREA, CALIF: Gary Olson of the Bishop Creek Resorts ((760-873-4484) sent in this report:

Intake No. 2: Fishing slowed down a little but this was still the hot spot.

DF&G planted this week and we saw a lot of the half-pounders coming out.

Lot of success with Power Bait, Salmon eggs, Trout Teasers and Thomas Buoyant lures.

One angler had on his stringer a 2-pound, 11-ounce, 2-pound, 6-ounce and a 2-pound 5-ounce. He used Kastmaster and Trout Teaser lures.

North Lake: Is about half ice now and the fishing is good. You still have to hike from the gate.

Nightcrawlers did good and Thomas Buoyants brought in some nice fish.

Sabrina Lake: No report.

South Lake: Still iced over. The ice fishing remained good with plenty of augured holes to use after you bust the ice out of them. Most people did OK but the weather drove the majority out and down to Intake No. 2 or the creek.

Best baits were nightcrawlers or crickets, and the gold Kastmaster or white Trout Teaser topped the lures.

Bishop Creek: The creek did real well most of the week.

The water level is low which makes for easy fishing and there is good access to the banks.

Top fish was a 2-pound, 5-ounce rainbow on Salmon eggs.

BLUE LAKES, CALIF. AREA: No report. Road still closed for the winter.

BOULDER RESERVOIR IN NORTHERN WASHOE COUNTY: No report.

BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR, CALIF: According to Mary at the Bridgeport Marina, "Ever changing weather kept the anglers guessing this week but those who braved the weather found fishing steady, with several in the 3-5 pound range, all week.

The big fish of the week was a 5.4 pound rainbow, while trolling a broken back rainbow Rapala lure.

Sherry Haar of Topaz, Nevada trolled flashers and worms to bring in a 3.65 pound cutbow trout."

CARSON RIVERS, CALIF: Dave Kirby of the Woodfords Station (530-694-2930) checked in and said, "Four guys, on Sunday, caught a bunch of average-sized rainbows in the West Carson River.

They were using fake Salmon eggs or flies with bobbers in the deeper holes.

Nothing big but they had lots of fun.

Others who braved the weather, over the weekend, also had some nice action."

CONVICT LAKE AREA, CALIF:

Convict Lake: Bank fishing has been great! Use Sierra Gold, inflated nightcrawlers, rainbow Power Bait or Thomas Buoyant lures.

The largest trout this week was a 5.5 German brown caught with a Trout Teaser by a float tuber near the Inlet. That angler was also the same person who caught the 11-pound rainbow on Opening Day.

Other large rainbows (all Alpers Trophy Rainbow Trout) were a 5.34 pounder on a nightcrawler from the Jetty, a 5.09 on a nightcrawler from the North Shore and a 5.0 on a nightcrawler from the Jetty.

Convict Creek: Special regulations in some areas. Check your regs.

CRATER LAKE, CALIF. (Near Kit Carson Pass): No report.

CROWLEY LAKE, CALIF: Susie Greilich of Kittredge Sports in Mammoth Lakes (760-934-7566) reported: A lot of limits with worms or Kastmaster lures, with a slow retrieve, at McGee Bay. Trolling 3-4 colors of leadcore line with Needlefish lures at Leighton Springs.

FRENCHMAN RESERVOIR, CALIF: Wiggin's Trading Post at Chilcoot (530-993-4683) reported fishing has been pretty good but the unsettled weather has been keeping many fishermn away. On Saturday, a shore fisherman limited out with worms. near the dam. His two biggest rainbows were a 2.5 and 2 pounds.

Grant Lake: A lot of browns. Use Rapala lures.

Gull Lake: Sierra Gold is best.

June Lake: Troll 1-3 colors of leadcore line with brown, trout or Fire Tiger colored Rapala lures.

Silver Lake: A lot of limits on worms, Thomas Buoyant lures or olive Matuka flies. Some browns on Woolly Bugger flies.

KIRMAN (CARMEN) LAKE: Rick Giser of Ken's Sporting Goods Store in Bridgeport (760-932-7707) reported the hike-in lake has been fishing very good for float tubers, both fly and lure fishermen. Most fishermen are catch and release fishing. Fly fishing has been best for Cutthroat trout up to 23 inches and Eastern brook trout in the 14-17 inch class.

PYRAMID LAKE, NEV: Don Hamby of the Gilly Sporting Goods Store in Sparks (358-6113) said that the fishing has been pretty good, especially those fly fishermen who are "Nymphing." The best fly fishing continues to be at the south end of "The Nets" and south of there. A few decent Cutts are being caught and the fishermen are starting to catch some decent numbers of fish.

SACRAMENTO RIVER. CALIF: Kirk Portocarrero of Outdoor Adventures Sport Fishing in Redding (800-670-4448) said: "I'll be out of town until May 13."

Redding to Anderson: Flows at 30,000 C.F.S., decreasing to 27,000, but still high. Rainbow trout fishing is on hold, water too fast and muddy. Watch for fishing to pick up as this storm passes. When able to fish, we are using spinning gear with Glo-Bugs, crickets and Flatfish lures. Fly fishing with Nymphs, PT Nos. 14 & 16, olive and brown.

SILVER LAKE, CALIF: No report.

SHASTA LAKE, CALIF: Kirk Portocarrero said fishing for rainbow trout and landlocked kings is turning up, as warm weather has arrived. Fishing will continue to improve. Hooking a few Browns in the McCloud Arm. You'll have to bring rain gear, as they are calling for showers the next few days. Using downriggers with Rapala and Rebel lures. Watch for fishing to improve as Shad appear in large schools.

SPARKS MARINA (in Sparks): No report.

LAKE TAHOE -- North Shore:

Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters (800-877-1462) said: "The fishing is still good for average-sized Mackinaw trout, early in the morning, when we can get out between storms.

Some of the larger Macks are going up to 7-8 pounds. I've been tagging and releasing the smaller ones.

We've been trolling 250-550 feet deep in the area in front of Carnelian Bay and King's Beach.

We are using silver, Herring Dodger flasher blades with live minnows or large Apex lures."

LAKE TAHOE -- North Shore:

Gene St. Denis of Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552) said, "When I can get out, the Mackinaw fishing is good at Dollar Point and Cal-Neva Point.

We've been trolling 200-280 feet deep with large, silver, Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows.

The Macks are running 3-7 pounds, with the bigger ones up to 10 pounds.

LAKE TAHOE -- South Shore: No report.

LAKE TAHOE -- East Shore: Gene St. Denis said: "We have been trolling 180-260 feet deep with silver, Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows on the Cave Rock Shelf, when the weather lets us.

Jigging has also been successful with white, Crippled Herring jigs, tipped with a live minnow."

TOPAZ LAKE: Chuck Fields of the Topaz Lake Marina (775-266-3550) reported, "The weather is great this morning (Tuesday). The fishing is about the same as last week. Fish are being picked up from shore with nightcrawlers or rainbow Power Bait. Trolling has slowed down and the best trolling is no more than 100 feet from shore. The largest fish of the week was a 2-pound, 6-ounce rainbow."

TWIN LAKES, CALIF. AREA:

Lower Twin Lake: Steve Marti of the Twin Lake Resort reported the largest fish on the opening weekend was a 10-pound, 8-ounce German brown taken on a brown trout pattern Rapala lure. Big fish this week were a 5.25 pound rainbow on a Trout Trap, a 4-pound rainbow on a fly and bubble and a 3-pound, 12-ounce rainbow on Power Bait.

Upper Twin Lake: Annett's Mono Village ((760) 932-7468) reported some good sized browns being caught, topped by a 4-pound, 7-ounce brown on a rainbow trout pattern Rebel lure and a 3-pound, 4-ounce brown on yellow Power Bait. A 4-pound, 1-ounce rainbow on Chartreuse Power Bait. Stringers coming in with Power Bait, nightcrawlers and lures.

Robinson Creek: Has lots of fish and the angler pressure is down.

Red salmon eggs, cheese-colored Power Bait and a black/yellow dot Panther/Martin No. 2 were working the best.

VIRGINIA LAKES, CALIF. AREA: Rick Giser of Ken's Sporting Goods Store reported that the Virginia Lakes still have four feet of ice. If you plan to fish there, bring an auger with an extension or bring a chipping bar to open up a hole that someone else has dug in the ice.

VIRGINIA LAKE IN RENO: No report.

WALKER RIVERS:

East Walker (Calif.): Rick Giser of Ken's Sporting Goods Store reported fishing has been tough because of the low flows (55 C.F.S.). Basically fishing from pocket to pocket.

West Walker (Calif.): Rick Giser reported that it is just starting to pick up. Best results with Prince Nymph flies or Panther/Martin lures. The runoff has not yet started and the water is low.

East Walker (Nev.): Planted last week with 999 rainbow trout, 10 inches in length.

West Walker (Nev.): Planted last week with 2,673 rainbow trout, 9.5 inches.

Little Walker (Calif.): Best fishing is in the Willow Flat area with worms or salmon eggs for small rainbows or brookies.

WASHOE LAKE, NEV: No report.

WEBER RESERVOIR, NEV: No report.

WILDHORSE RESERVOIR NEV: Dennis Dunn of the Wild Horse Resort (775-758-6472) reported: "The big news is that Roy Anderson, our cook here at the resort, caught a 15-pound Channel Catfish, last Thursday.

He was fishing with a nightcrawler where Penrod Creek comes into the reservoir.

The fishing is good, but the weather has been crazy. We got three inches of snow in a half-hour, yesterday afternoon, and then it stopped. Typical Spring weather, up here, but God know's we need the moisture."
