The Carson City Redevelopment Authority Citizens Committee will consider Wednesday whether to pay $10,500 for an education course to create a Downtown Business Plan.

The 12-session course, offered by the Nevada Small Business Development Center, would teach 15 community members to work out the elements of a downtown business plan.

The idea would be to identify what types of businesses work in the downtown area, like antiques and cultural establishments, and to strengthen those opportunities, said Carson City's Supervisor Robin Williamson.

Carson's economic development and redevelopment manager Joe McCarthy said the course would result in a complete business plan and is an extension of the city's planning, promotions and marketing efforts in the downtown redevelopment area.

"One of the things we're trying to do is to create more momentum in moving forward," McCarthy said.

Williamson, chairwoman of the redevelopment authority, said she hopes members of the downtown business group, banking representatives, Telegraph Square businesses and other economic development specialists would be interested in joining the group.
