Another large audience greeted Jan Janauschek last evening at the Opera House. She appeared in what is considered her best role, "Mary Stuart." All the stormy scenes of the unfortunate Queen's life, triumph and despair, were given with the strong hand of an artist, backed by the brains of a great actress.
100 YEARS AGO
Miss Lucy Davis puts in a claim to the carcass of the California lion found dead west of this city a few days ago. She saw what she thought was a coyote prowling in the rear of the Holstein Ranch. She took a shot at it with a Winchester rifle at about 200 yards distance. The wounded animal rose to its feet and she found it was a California lion. She took several more shots at long range. There were drops of blood on the sand.

Over 2,000 invitations from George A. Brown, manager of the Stateline Country Club on the Southeast shore of Lake Tahoe for the opening, featuring Al Hargrave's 11-piece band from the University of California campus.

Albert O. Seeliger, who on Aug. 1 will become the new superintendent of Carson City schools, has an outstanding record in Nevada education circles and community activities. He served in Panaca, Mina, Sparks and Fallon, and is a past president of Fallon Rotary.

Sunday's last-minute flap between the Senate and Assembly over public works project funding will leave the Public Works Board about $240,000 short of funds and lose several improvement projects, board secretary-manager Bill Hancock said today.

Western Nevada Community College's largest ever graduating class heard former graduate Tracey Lake as commencement speaker. She likened her education to the foundation of a skyscraper. "My WNCC education was a crucial part of the foundation."
