A 68-year-old Gardnerville man and three-year Douglas County Sheriff's Office volunteer was found dead by hunters Wednesday morning on China Spring Road south of Gardnerville.

Sheriff's Sgt. Tom Mezzetta said David Castleberry was found slumped over the four-wheel off-road vehicle he was driving and pronounced dead at the scene. Castleberry is believed to have died from a medical problem rather than by accident as there was no indication of trauma, Mezzetta said.

Castleberry had logged more than 900 hours since he began volunteering in June 2000.
