A gathering for family and friends of James Eugene Taylor, 86, a New Washoe City resident, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Taylor home, 3481 Churchill Drive, New Washoe City.

Mr. Taylor died Nov. 15, 2003, at home. He was born on June 7, 1917, in Montana to Muncie and Estella Wingard Grover.

He married Thelma Sole on Nov. 14, 1943, in Sherill, N.Y.

He had lived in Reno, Sparks, and the Washoe Valley area since 1968.

While living in Glasgow, Mont., Mr. Taylor was a truck driver for Texaco, worked for Valley County in road maintenance, was a school bus driver, a farmer and a custodian for low-rent housing. After moving to Nevada, he was a taxi driver, a heavy-equipment operator for a contractor building roads and a ski lift operator for Alpine Meadows. He worked for the Hidden Valley Golf Course in maintenance and as a greens groomer. He was a Baptist.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Ralph, Robert, Glenn and Muncie.

Among his survivors are his wife of 60 years, Thelma of New Washoe City; sons Robert and Paul, both of the Los Angeles area, Allen of Glasgow, Kime of Sun Valley and Donald of Yerington; daughter Susan Jones of New Washoe City; grandchildren Shavon, Brenda, Heather, Mackinze, René, Frank and James; and great-granddaughter, Nicole.

Capitol City Cremation & Burial Society is in charge of arrangements.
