A memorial Mass for Joseph F. Schmidt, 83, a Carson City resident for the past 25 years, will be at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 26 at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.

Mr. Schmidt died on Nov. 12, 2003, at home. He was born on Feb. 28, 1920, in Philadelphia to Joseph and Helen Bendereck Schmidt.

He attended grade school and high school in Philadelphia. He earned a degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Pennsylvania and attended H&R Block tax prep school, IRS Vita/TCE.

Before moving to Carson City, he lived in Oceanside, Calif., and Dayton, Ohio.

Mr. Schmidt was a mechanical engineer for the Department of Defense and worked at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton. He volunteered at the Senior Citizens Center and was a past member of the American Society of Engineers. He was a Roman Catholic.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, the U.S. Air Force and the Department of Defense for a total of 30 years.

Among his survivors are his wife, Virginia and son Steven J., both of Carson City; and sister, Julianna T. Schmidt of Tucson, Ariz.

He will be buried in the Northern Nevada Veterans Cemetery in Fernley.
