A Carson City mother said Monday she will plead guilty to a charge of child abuse after she allegedly ripped fake fingernails off of her 9-year-old daughter's hands, taking two of the child's real nails with them.
Holly Lynn Forrest, 39, appeared in Carson City Justice Court and waived an evidentiary hearing in preparation of the guilty plea to be made in district court.
Forrest was arrested Oct. 5 after an employee of the Pioneer Motel overheard her daughter talking on the phone about the incident.
The girl told police her mother had "ripped her fake fingernails off because she was so drunk."
Forrest was charged with felony child abuse and domestic battery.
According to the police report, when Forrest was arrested, she registered a .33 blood- alcohol level with a preliminary breath test.
"She has a huge alcohol problem," Forrest's attorney, Public Defender Karen Kreizenbeck.
She asked Justice of the Peace Steven McMorris to release Forrest to a 28-day, in-house alcohol treatment program.
Forrest agreed to not contact her daughter, who is in the custody of her father, until the matter is settled and reviewed by Child Protective Services.
McMorris agreed to the treatment program.
